Garnet Gregory

Regional Materials Manager Main Roads WA

Presentation Title: Main Roads WA Dieback eradication projects – Wheatbelt region

Meet the Presenter:

Garnet Gregory is the Regional Materials Manager for the Main Roads WA Wheatbelt Region. He has worked for 31 years in MRWA and 10 years in private industry in the same field. He has worked throughout Western Australia through his career and is currently working in the Wheatbelt where he has been located for the past 8 years.

Garnet’s role is the location, control and specification of all road building materials used by MRWA for the construction and maintenance of its large and aging road network in the Wheatbelt. MRWA recognises that the Wheatbelt has many rare and endangered flora communities within our road reserves and we have a corporate desire to protect remnant native vegetation wherever possible and these projects are a statement of our commitment in this sphere.

Garnet’s sport is powerlifting! In 2019 he became CAPO (Council of Australian Powerlifting Organisations) state Masters Champion winning gold in June. He was awarded Bronze at the Nationals in August 2019, was ranked 25th in Australia out of 699 competing athletes across all leagues.

Abstract:

Garnet will present a brief outline of what MRWA is doing on the front of dieback eradication so that we can mitigate the spread of the disease during our maintenance and construction activities.

Three projects are underway in an attempt to mitigate the potential spread of the disease through the use of natural road building materials such as gravel.
